Pushing the Limit ( Alpha Ops #3 ) by Emmy Curtis Reviewed by Samantha

They’re tough. They’re brave. And they’ll do anything for the women they love. They’re the Alpha Ops. In the tradition of Suzanne Brockmann and Julie Ann Walker comes a sizzling new high-octane romantic suspense novel from rising star Emmy Curtis.
After their one-night fling at a wedding, archaeologist Henrietta “Harry” Markowitz thought she’d never see war hero Matt Stanning again. So when they’re paired up to investigate a military plane crash in Iraq, she’s not sure if the three-month reunion is serendipitous or cursed. What she does know is this gorgeous man lights her body on fire—and incredible sex is always a welcome distraction.
Air Force Sergeant Matt Stanning has been called a hero, but he feels nothing like one when he realizes the sexy blonde in his bed is the widow of his fallen brother-in-arms. Even worse, he actually has to work with her, and she’s unearthed evidence that points to a military conspiracy. If they dig deeper, they’ll put their lives in danger. If they don’t, they’ll never know the truth—not only about the mysterious plane crash, but about each other.

‘I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review’
Henrietta ( Harry ) is an archaeologist. She was hired by a company to basically see if there is anything at a site worth digging up. When she finds something of import to the military she makes a call to a friend. Little did she know the person to come and take a look at it would be her almost fling from months ago that she can’t get out of her head. All Harry wants to do is finish her job and finish what they started before. Until she finds out A.) Matt was friends with someone who was close to her and B.) There is more to her job then she thought and that this visit to Iraq was not going to be as pleasant as her last one.
Matt was on his way home and was asked to go to Iraq to check out something that could be important that an archaeologist found. Even though he wasn’t happy about returning to Iraq after the tragedy that happened last time he was there, he couldn’t help but hope he would be able to reconnect with Harry. He reconnects to her alright and finds out that she is his best friends widow. That certainly puts a damper on what he would like to do with her. He also runs into an old team member and finds out that he walked into a shit storm and knows beyond a doubt that he must keep Harry safe.

This is the third book in the Alpha Ops series. It is however the first that I have read. I was definitely impressed with what I read and I do look forward to going back and reading books 1 and 2. There was lots of danger and suspense. A lot of emotional upheaval that both Matt and Harry have to work through. A few intimate encounters. In which the first scene definitely had the most detail. This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more of her work. Although it’s the third book in a series it can be read as a stand alone. I definitely recommend reading.

Emmy Curtis is an editor and a romance writer. An ex-pat Brit, she quells her homesickness with Cadbury Flakes and Fray Bentos pies. She’s lived in London, Paris and New York, and has settled for the time being, in North Carolina. When not writing, Emmy loves to travel with her military husband and take long walks with their Lab. All things considered, her life is chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny. And if you get that reference…well, she already considers you kin.
