The Earl's Defiant Wallflower ( Dukes of War Book 1 ) by Erica Ridley with Review by Samantha

Oliver York returns from war to find his father dead, his finances in arrears, and himself the new Earl of Carlisle. If he doesn't marry an heiress—and fast!—he and his tenants are going to be pitching tents down by the Thames. He definitely shouldn't be trading kisses with a penniless debutante... no matter how captivating she is!

Miss Grace Halton is in England just long enough to satisfy the terms of her dowry. But a marriage of convenience isn't as easy as she'd hoped. Back in America, her ailing mother needs medicine only Grace's dowry can afford. Which means the dashing earl she can't get out of her mind is the one man she can't let into her heart.

Regency-set Historical Romance Novel

Enjoy the emotional, laugh-out-loud first book in USA Today bestselling author Erica Ridley's new Dukes of War regency romance series!

Oliver needs to marry and heiress. Grace is not what he needs. But she is who he wants more then anything. When he hears the way the men talk about her he can't resist coming to her rescue. If he gives in to his wants he may not be able to bring his estate where it needs to be let alone pay his staff. But when push comes to shove can he disregard his feelings?

Grace needs to marry a titled lord. Her grandparents expect it of her. She just needs to marry so that she can get access to her dowry to go back home to get her mother the medical attention that she needs. She has every intention of coming back but her mother is the most important thing in the world to her and she needs to help her. She wants Oliver but she knows she's not what he needs. But the more time she spends with him the more she falls.

I absolutely love this author and this series so far. There are some great characters that I can't wait to see more of in future books. I think Grace's character is wonderful. I know what it's like to love your mother that much and with that being a big factor of Grace's story it really struck a cord with me. I definitely recommend reading!
