Armor of Glass by R.M.A. Spears with Review by Samantha

 

With his head down, bulling through various assignments to make his version of the American dream a reality, a troubled Marine reaches the end of his rope, only to let go and tumble into a turbulent affair with a high-ranking woman on the fast track to general. The first woman appointed to the US Air Force Academy has built a tinderbox wall around her salacious past and is now one of the good ol' boys on the Inspector General team. What the Marine doesn't know is that he will be the spark to ignite this powder keg of her past and in the end be left alone to rummage through the pieces.

This was a hard book to get into at first as I really found it hard to connect with the main character, Brick. A book of this length I can usually finish in a day or two. It took me a little longer with this one. I am glad that I am not the type of person to give up on a book. The further into the book I got I was able to connect more with the main character and really get interested in the book.

 

The story is told in first person. Brick comes off like a real jerk at first. Then it goes into a really disturbing event that happened to him as a child. Then it continues to go on about his few tried and failed marriages. The affairs he continuously had with the one that got away. The spouses on both ends that did everything in their power to tear them apart and ruin their lives in the process. 

 

There was a phrase in the book that I enjoyed as it came from one of my favorite movies "The Little Rascals"  The phrase was that they should start up the He-Man Women Haters club like Spanky and
AlphaAlpha.

 

All in all after the first few chapters I found it to be an enjoyable book. I do recommend reading!

 

 

 

R.M.A. Spears retired from the US Marine Corps in 2009, having served 27 years in the Navy and Marine Corps, as an infantry and intelligence officer. He served two tours in Iraq. During the invasion of Iraq, he was Ripper-2, serving as the regimental intelligence officer with the 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, IMEF. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, in lieu of second award. While serving in the US Navy, he, as well as the other candidates of Aviation Officer Class (AOCS) 06-78, was interviewed for a movie screenplay that became "An Officer and a Gentleman."
